Meeting the Family: English for Your Loved Ones

Meeting someone's family is a big step! This story will help you prepare for meeting the family in English. You'll learn vocabulary and  key phrases about family members so you can feel comfortable talking about it.

Text 6 - Meeting the Family

Tom invites his new friend, Sarah, to his house to meet his family. Sarah is a little nervous. She says, "It is a pleasure to meet your family." Tom's mother, father, and brother are in the living room. Tom introduces her. "Mom, Dad, this is my new friend, Sarah. Sarah, this is my family." Tom's mother smiles and says, "Welcome, Sarah! It is nice to meet you." Tom's father shakes her hand and says, "Hello, Sarah. I am Tom's father." His brother says, "Hi." Sarah feels comfortable with Tom's family. They are all very friendly. They sit and talk about Tom's day and their hobbies.
