First Look: Learn English for a New Home

Do you want to describe the feeling of seeing your new home for the very first time? This story will teach you vocabulary for a first look at a new home, so you can confidently talk about your own experience.

Suggestions to build fluency:

Read and listen to the text a few times and then read the text aloud. Focus on pronunciation first; then focus on the intonation of English. Try to imitate the speaker from the audio. Read slowly at the beginning. Later, you can focus on speed.

Text 1 - First Look

Listen to the text.

Laura and her husband, Mike, are standing in front of their new house. It is a big, blue house with a white door. They have a key. Laura is very excited to see inside. Mike opens the door, and they walk into the living room. The room is big and bright, with two large windows. The walls are white and clean. The house is empty, but they can see its potential. Laura is happy because it is beautiful and it has a lot of space. "This is perfect for our family," she says. Mike agrees with her. "We can make this house our home," he says with a smile.
