The Living Room: English for Furniture and Decor

Do you want to describe the main room in your home? This story focuses on the living room, teaching you essential living room furniture vocabulary. You'll learn how to talk about all the common household items you see every day.

Suggestions to build fluency: 

Read and listen to the text two or three times. Then, read the text aloud at normal speed until you feel comfortable with the pronunciation. After that, read the text again, but faster. Focus on speed and good pronunciation at the same time. Then, read the text aloud again, but read it even faster. Finally, read the text again at normal speed. 

Text 2 - The Living Room

Listen to the text.

After seeing the entrance, Laura and Mike walk into the living room. It is a big, open space with two large windows that let in a lot of natural light. They decide to put a sofa and two chairs in the center of the room. Against the far wall, they plan to put a big television. On the floor, in front of the sofa, they will place a small coffee table. The walls are a very clean white, so they will put some colorful paintings on them. Laura and Mike are excited to make this room feel comfortable and personal for the whole family to relax. The living room is the perfect place for them to spend time together after a long day.
